Beauty buys – making over my makeup bag

Thank you to everyone that responded to my desperate plea for makeup advice.

The biggest takeaway from all your hints and tips was that I should make an attempt to kidnap Guardian’s beauty columnist, Sali Hughes, and demand she make me up every morning. While that would result in me no doubt looking a bit more glam, I’d be doing so in prison so I decided to look for an alternative solution.

Take one credit card and one online cosmetics shop, throw in a clueless thirty-something, and what do you get?

This of course.

Beauty Buys May
1. Philip B African Shea Butter Gentle & Conditioning Shampoo
2. Too Faced Primed & Poreless Pure Face Primer
3. Aveda Nourish-Mint Sheer Mineral Lip Colour in Sheer Filaree
4. Essie nail polish in Fed Up
5. Clinique Chubby Stick in Woppin’ Watermelon
6. Philip B Lovin’ Leave-In Conditioner
7. New Cid Cosmetic I-Gel Eye Liner Trio
8. Urban Decay The Naked Palette

Quite a haul. But considering I haven’t invested in any new products for a couple of years, I felt like making up for lost time.

So I’ll give them a whirl and let you know how I get on. If I can perfect a couple of looks without looking like a bad drag queen, I’ll even consider posting pictures.

In the meantime, if you come across any gems, let me know.

Although, I think I’ll soon need to invest in a bigger makeup bag to hold all my new purchases.

  1. Hi, great post, hope you enjoy your new purchases. I love Clarins Beauty Flash Balm to put under foundation and the new Lancome Teint Visionnaire foundation. How can you tell that I’m desperately trying to make my skin look more youthful than it actually is? :)

    1. Oh me too! I hit 35 and the wrinkles slowly but surely decided to make themself known. I’ve used the Beauty Flash Balm for years now but will add the Lancôme one to my list to try. Thanks x

  2. Oooh I need to get the Naked pallette. I’ve just light the urban decay eye shadow primer and its fantastic. Slightly pricey but you only need a teeny bit so worth it and its meant to go perfectly with the Naked pallette!

    1. Ooo, I’ll look in to the primer too. I’m like skid in a sweet shop at the moment. Don’t know what to try first.

    1. I’ll do another post once I’ve been using them for a couple of weeks. I think Sali Hughes’ job is safe though.

  3. Have been away for a while so missed commenting on your first post, but have read with interest. I too am stuck in a make up rut.

Not strictly make up but one new thing I have been trying is Elemis Pro Collagen Marine Cream recently. A friend bought it for me for my birthday. I’m a die hard Clarins girl but I’ve been giving it a whirl and my goodness..I’m sure my skin looks tighter on my forehead -and my frown lines are definitely not as pronounced – tis like natural botox in a jar!

Also check out Lisa Eldridge for make up / beauty tips – some good videos on her website.
