Homeward Bound has long been one of my favourite Simon and Garfunkel songs. There’s something so simple but so special about the lyrics:
I wish I was homeward bound
Home, where my thought’s escaping
Home, where my music’s playing
Home, where my love lies waiting
Silently for me
When your heart is somewhere, it’s difficult to settle anywhere else. So after seven years in Switzerland, we will be back on Welsh soil in time for Christmas.
You could say that I’m rather looking forward to this. Hell, you could say that I’m unbelievably excited.
While I’m sure that the transition won’t be easy and the UK is a very different country now to the one we left in 2006, the phrase ‘home sweet home’ hasn’t been coined a million times over for no reason.
For anyone in a similar situation wanting to repatriate or if you’re simply interested in our lives and our expat journey, this little space will hold the posts that tell the story of how we make our way home.
Should I stay or should I go now?
Repatriation: akin to planning a wedding?
18 months to go!
Coming home for Christmas?
Homeward bound – seven months to go
A bedroom fit for a Captain
But you can buy a small car for £4,000!
Headless chicken time
A state of limbo
In search of a new ordinary
